Due to recent government restrictions and LTA directives we have been forced to cancel all of our upcoming Men’s and Ladies Open tennis competitions in Tier 2 Coronavirus areas. As from 00:00 on Saturday 17th October 2020 SUTTON TENNIS ACADEMY and BROMLEY TENNIS CENTRE AT NEWSTEAD fall into these areas. In simple terms, players aged 18 or over ere no longer allowed to take part in indoor tennis competitions in Tier 2/3 areas.
This is very disappointing for everyone particularly as the primary focus of TSUK is the provision of competitions to adults and older teenagers.
If you are an adult (aged 18 or over) then it is hard to know what to say. I am conscious that some of you have supported our events for many years. In my view, the government’s decision is grossly unfair and illogical. All I can say is that we are staging some events at other (Covid Tier 1) venues over the next few months (Bucks ITC and Aldershot Tennis Centre), although given the huge pressure on indoor court resources at the moment, such opportunities are somewhat limited.
If you are under the age of 18 years old then we are working with our participating venues and the LTA and intend to stage a number of additional/alternative junior events, in place of Open events. These will take time to set up so please continue to visit our website, particularly over the next few days for details of such events. Do remember that for any grade 5 events which we stage, acceptances are made on a first-come, first-served basis. Some events reach maximum capacity very quickly – often within hours.
This is a devastating blow to everyone concerned. After 30 years as a competition organiser, I am determined to do whatever is needed to uphold our reputation of staging professional managed indoor competitions. Despite government attempts to thwart our efforts, I hope you will continue to support us in the future.
