Grade 3 tournaments are higher level regional level competitions.
Although they are intended for intermediate and advanced players, anyone is
welcome to apply although players who are very new to competitive tennis
may find the experience of competition at this level a little challenging. Grade
3 competitions tend to take place over a period of 2-6 days with several
age groups, often including both singles and doubles events.
Some popular grade 3 tournaments are oversubscribed in which case
selections are made on merit according to ratings and/or rankings depending on age
group. As a general rule, the application deadline for grade 3 competitions is around 14 days prior to the start of the competition. This allows any
unsuccessful applications sufficient time to apply for a grade 4 competition.
The number of rankings points (or LTA recent form points in the case of 9U and 10U events) awarded to players winning successive rounds in a
grade 3 competition is higher than in a grade 4 event. Grade 3 competitions also count towards each players World Tennis Number ("WTN").
