Sutton Tennis
Academy is delighted to be staging our first full holiday competition in
2020. With our regular Easter and Summer competitions cancelled due to lockdown
and having trialled two small scale October half-term tournaments, we believe
that we are now ready to resume a tournament at full-capacity in a Covid-safe
environment.
As many regular
players and parents will know, Sutton has two indoor court areas – six acrylic
courts in the main building and four indoor clay courts in an air-hall. To
avoid too many people accumulating in one area, the tournament has been restructured this year and will run along the following lines
- All main draw
events will take place on designated surfaces (either indoor clay or indoor
acrylic). There will be a control desk in each area and all players should
report only to their designated surface control desk
- The tournament
has been extended to a total of nine days this year and will be split into two
“blocks” (21st to 24th and 27th to 31st December). Different age group events
will run in each block
- Each event will
be restricted to a limited number of days – Two days for 10&U and 11&U
events. Older age group events may take place over three, four or five days
depending on final entry numbers
- We are holding
some one-day grade 4, 10&U and 12&U FAST4 events as we appreciate that we
have held few events for these age groups since competitions resumed in
September 2020. Eligible players can apply for both the grade 3 and grade 4
events if they wish to
- Consolation
events will be optional in older age group events (12U to 18&U). These will
take place on separate days to main draw matches, avoiding players and parents
having to wait around
- Unlike our
October half-term tournaments, all events will have realistic provisional draw
sizes. We have taken our 2019 Christmas tournament entry numbers into account
when setting these
- All events from
11&U upwards will use proper scoring – two standard sets (tiebreak at 6-6)
with a match tiebreak at one set all. This does not however apply to 10&U
events, nor the additional grade 4 junior events which we are staging in some
age groups, which will use FAST4 scoring
- (Added 27/11/2020 following publication of new Covid regulations) Men's and Ladies Open ADULT PRIORITY EVENTS (players born on or before 31/12/2001 accepted as a first priority)
Both Sutton
Tennis Academy and TennisUK take your safety and wellbeing very seriously. We
welcome your application and look forward to seeing you play in our “new-look”
Christmas tournament. Please click on the “Events and Applications” link to the
left to view the list of events and to make an application.
