TSUK's three week-long Easter LTA holiday competitions
at Sutton Tennis Academy (Better Sutton Sports Village) attracted a total of
814 tennis players this year.
Players of all ages and abilities took part in one or more tournaments
on the centre’s six acrylic and eight clay courts. Good use was made of the
recently constructed air hall at Sutton covering four of the clay courts, which
provides more opportunities for indoor tennis throughout the year, regardless
of the weather.
The first of the three tournaments was an eight-day national
level competition and included many of the top 50 British players, particularly
in the 12&U and 14&U age categories. Players came from 37 different
counties in the UK, spanning South-West Cornwall to the North of Scotland.
Fortunately, the weather was favourable throughout the 22
day Easter period; there were almost no rain delays and all events were
completed on time. A total of 1,017 matches took place over the 22 day period, significantly
more than at the Wimbledon Championships!
