LATEST NEWS FOR ADULT PLAYERS!! - Did you know that we now stage "Over 25's" events in the TennisUK Matchplays programme. Read on, to find out more.
The Tunbridge Wells Indoor Tournament (Kent), now in its 14th year will take place from 19th to 24th December. This is a GRADE 3 competition for older junior players, adults, and also includes a Mens' 35 & Over category and a Mens' Doubles event.
A number of TSUK competitions have been staged at David Lloyd Southampton over the next few months: - Saturday 26th November, (Ladies' and Mens' Open) - Sunday 11th December, (Ladies' and Mens' Open) - Saturday 7th January, (Ladies' Open, Boys' Under 15, Mens' Over 25) - Sunday 8th January, (Ladies' Open, Mens' Open, Mens' Over 25)
In addition to a number of one-day weekend events in the TENNISUK MATCHPLAY programme the following indoor tournaments have been staged at Sutton Tennis Academy (Surrey): The Sutton Christmas Indoor#1 tournament is a grade 4 junior competition running from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd December. This is a new tournament to the LTA calendar and includes boys' and girls' 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 & under categories. The Sutton Christmas Indoor#2 tournament is a long established grade 4 junior and GRADE 3 mens' and ladies' open tournament taking place between Christmas and the New Year (Tuesday 27th to Saturday 31st December). In previous years, players entering this competition have been limited to applying for one event only, although this restriction has been removed for 2011.
The Westway Indoor Sports Centre in Kensington, London will be staging their annual winter tournament from 27th to 31st December. This is a very popular junior and mini-tennis competition which has already attracted a number of entries. With eight indoor courts and a central café bar, Westway is an excellent competition venue and home to the Win Tennis Academy. Thanks to Boris Johnson, the centre is now OUTSIDE the London Congestion Charge Zone!
- between now and Sunday 18th December 2011 - from Sunday 8th January 2012 to Sunday 29th January 2012 (further events from February onwards are planned too) The National Tennis Centre (NTC) is a fantastic competition venue and both the administrative and training headquarters of the sport's governing body (the Lawn Tennis Association). With a total of 18 courts, excellent viewing and a modern and spacious caféteria a competitive experience at the NTC is a must! The majority of TSUK matchplay events at the NTC are "Tier 2" competitions. Although players of all standards are welcome to apply, this favours the LOWER rated players in the event of over-application which we feel is fair, as such players rarely get opportunities to play at this prestigious venue.
David Lloyd Hatfield (Hertfordshire) has now hosted autumn and winter events in the TENNISUK MATCHPLAY programme EVERY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY since 2006. With the exception of the holiday period (24th/25th/31st December, 1st, 6th/7th January), the programme of Mens' and Ladies' Open events will run to the end of March 2012. We are also staging a few Mens' Over 25's events at Hatfield too.
- EVERY WEEKEND One-day indoor and outdoor events taking place at Sutton (Surrey), David Lloyd Southampton, the LTA National Tennis Centre in Roehampton and David Lloyd Hatfield (Herts). Programme published to the end of January 2012. All events take place at the weekends. Matchplay events are run in several age groups (minimum rating of 10.2 required) and provide an excellent means of match practice for both adults and juniors against opponents of similar standard. Results are submitted to the LTA for ratings purposes and the programme has now been established for 9 years. Matchplay events have become increasingly popular over the last few months and an early application is recommended. Please remember that you may cancel any application without charge up to the published cancellation deadlines (4:00pm on the Tuesday prior to each event). Players and parents are reminded that applying for multiple events on the SAME DAY (within the TennisUK matchplays.com programme) IS permitted – our system ensures that no player can be selected for more than one matchplay event/venue per day. Players submitting multiple applications stand a far greater chance of selection. At the request of a number of adult players, we have recently introduced a new Mens and Ladies Over 25's category. If this age group is well supported, more events in this category will be included in future schedules.
Please visit www.tennisuk.net now to make an online application for any of these competitions. DO remember that unlike some other tournaments, we do not charge you when you make an application for an event. We only bill players once they are ACCEPTED for a competition. Cancellations are also permitted without charge (up to stipulated deadlines) for ALL of our competitions. We look forward to receiving your applications to these tournaments and wish you every success with your tennis over the next few months. If you need any further information then please do not hesitate to contact us by email or telephone.
